CORE Suspension Stand-alone electronically-adjustable shocks have been developed to implement high-tech semi-active suspension in any car.
There are 3 options available to those who wish to take a step into the future!
The CORE ACE damper will generally be an emulsion damper in most installations where short dampers are required. Generally anything under 450mm long with and average stroke will be of this type. If its just a short stroke we may be able to accommodate a damper with separation piston.
We prefer the ACE+ damper where a short damper is required to fit the vehicle. As the DDA valve takes up space on the damper shaft. The ACE+ damper includes a remote canister to house the gas reservoir and separating piston. A little more installation time but a better end product and performance. No access is needed to this canister for any type of adjustment.
Finally the R-ACE damper has a remote canister for the gas reservoir but this also houses High and Low speed compression adjustment for additional range.
The dampers are fitted with the “TracTive” patented DDA (Dynamic Damping Adjustment) valve. With its reaction time of 6 to 10 milliseconds from full soft to fully hard, it is one of the fastest damping adjustments in the market. It demonstrates tremendous stability and consistency and is rapidly becoming THE technology chosen by high-end OE and racing teams. For every application, the damping level and damping adjustment range is set-up off-factory. It is possible to tune the damping level if required.
The controller allows tuning of the suspension to almost any application by controlling roll, pitch and dive motions of the vehicle. The motion of the vehicle is monitored by a g-sensor integrated into the control unit, which is installed close to the centre of gravity of the vehicle. The program is set up in the factory and can be updated if required.
The stand-alone system comes with a touch screen display that allows the driver to make on-the-fly adjustments, save settings and even make driver-specific setups. The driver can adjust the damping of the front and rear axle in 5 levels, but also the suspension resistance to roll, and pitch/dive in 5 levels. The display can be centrally mounted for easy access. The kit includes a remote knob that can be mounted on the steering wheel.
The hardware of these shocks is identical to the Traditional Suspension kits, except that the manual rebound adjuster has been replaced by the internal DDA valve and a cable coming out of the piston rod side of the dampers. Its components and technologies are used in the highest racing categories, yet its damping range is sufficiently large to allow for comfortable road use these electronic kits are demonstrably valved for both Road and Track use. Each kit is engineered specifically for optimal performance and durability. The dampers are fitted with Eibach springs as standard (Hypercoils are available at additional cost) and have an infinite ride height adjustment, either through the platforms on the shock bodies or through the separate adjusters. Here at CORE we consciously chose the use of 46mm digressive linear, double digressive or high flow pistons, low friction seals and 16 mm super finished, induction hardened, Q&T CrMo-steel piston rods for all shocks. Shock absorber bodies are made from hardened aluminium alloy to ensure thermal stability and lightweight. This design guarantees minimum stiction and maximum construction stiffness by using bearings and components.

The heart of the Semi Active product line is the DDA valve. It is the fastest, most stable bi-directional internal damping valve in the world. The DDA valve can respond to commands from the controller in only six milliseconds, or up to 60 times in the blink of an eye! (comparable valve designs respond in 80-100 milliseconds). Unlike other electronic solenoid valves, the DDA valve can also respond to mid-stroke commands, allowing for even more instantaneous damping performance. By utilizing a traditional shim stack arrangement in their electronic solenoid valve design, CORE semi active dampers are able to repeatedly and consistently produce the “ideal” damping curve for a variety of applications.
The mechanical build also sets the CORE Suspension DDA line apart from similar dampers on the market. CORE Suspension’s proprietary guide seal design features a .01mm guide clearance – the finest in the industry. This incredibly precise guide seal clearance provides CORE DDA products with the lowest stiction in the industry. This precision, combined with the placement and position of the DDA valve, makes the DDA valve impervious to sideload even during the most severe mechanical conditions.
All CORE products are subject to extreme scrutiny during quality-control tests and simulations in accordance with BMW automotive standards before receiving the green light for production. Each DDA valve design is subjected to 17.6 million cycles on a shock dyno and must retain 85% of original damping performance before being approved for production. It is not without reason that TracTive Suspension is the preferred choice of the experienced long-distance motorbike adventure rider or the low-temperature snowmobile crosser. The DDA valve is tested at temperatures as low as -30°C and as high as 140°C before production. Any technology that survives in these harsh conditions, has a field day in car racing.
